Looking Up and Moving On

As we complete the Memorial Day weekend and activities, I am reminded of America's godly heritage.  The Founding Fathers never intended a separation of church and state.  They merely taught all Americans that government must not decide on a state church or determine for the individual what church is right for him or her.

Patrick Henry said, It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often, that this great nation was founded, not by religionists, but by Christiansnot on religions, but on the gospel of Jesus Christ.  NOTE:  This quote used to be in American school textbooks!

The 1795 New England Primer was the main textbook in America until 1900.  This book taught the alphabet in an acrostic whereas every letter began with a verse of the Bible.

John Jay, the first Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, and, one of the 3 men most responsible for the U.S. Constitution, said, Providence has given to our people the choice of their rulersand it is the duty, as well as the privilege and interest, of a Christian nation to select and prefer Christians for their rulers.

In his famous Farewell Address, George Washington stated that to be called a true American you will not remove religion from politics.

John Quincy Adams once said, The highest glory of the American Revolution was this: it connected, in one insoluble bond, the principles of civil government with the principles of Christianity.

So, why do we keep getting told there is a separation of church and state?  Simply put, there were improper rulings by errant judges in 1962 when they rejected the Founding Fathers intentions and misquoted Thomas Jefferson.

Let us all thank God in prayer for the intent of the original government which many patriots of many wars fought to keep safe.  Thank him for freedom not only in the USA but the freedom we have in Christ .  God bless America!
